You are applying for financial aide through specific
programs that assist families in increasing their
knowledge of their family members disability and
how to better support them to live a healthy, strong
and vibrant quality of life.  Some programs pay only
for specific things, we encourage you to figure out
the total costs associated with your traveling to your
"learning experience" and request assistance for all
these costs.  At best, you may be denied specific
funding but in all, you will receive what you qualify for
and what the program you are applying for pays for.
The other fee's paid out-of-pocket might be a tax
deduction on your annual tax returns (ask your
accountant about this).  Here are some of the more
common things parents request assistance for:

  • Conference Registration Fees
  • Hotel Accommodations
  • Travel (Train, Air, Mileage or Gas)
  • Food Expense (See Per Diem Rate Chart Below)
  • Childcare Fee's
  • Personal Care Attendant Fee's
  • Days Pay - if you have to take off of work and it is
    unpaid
  • Any other fee's associated with the educational
    experience.

Federal Government Per Diem Rates 2009
Click on the per diem rate link "HERE" .  Click on your state and look for
your city or the closest city to where you live.  You are pulling the M&IE
rates.  What ever that number is.... the breakdown for the days meals are
    noted below.

For Peoria, IL the M&IE rate is $56 a day per person.**

You can calculate your traveling meals a few ways:

    1) Use Sagamon County (Springfield) the entire trip.
    2) Use your hometown rate for the traveling to and from the Conference
and the Sagamon County rate for the time you are attending the
    conference.

These rates are based on one individual.  If more than one person is
traveling multiply the number by the number of travelers such as... Mom,
Dad and one child.  The daily rate for Sagamon County, IL is $83 x 3
travelers = $192 each full day you are in Peoria, IL or traveling.

**Peoria Per Diem Rates are based on Springfield (Sagamon County) as it is
the closest county/region to Peoria.
