Individualized Training
Our Trainings include...
It always sounds easier when someone else is talking about how they
obtained certain services for their child and you have not been able to
penetrate the system and may even be in battles with service providers.
Many times parents and individuals with disabilities do not feel their input
in the development process of IEP's or other plans are valued, heard, or
even incorporated in the IEP.  Learn how to balance your love and
concern for the success of your loved one with getting the appropriate
services they are entitled too.  Learn your rights and responsibilities and
how to enact them in the process without breaking down communication
and burning bridges.  Learn how to effectively read, develop, interpret
and monitor plans as they are associated with providing services.
Need help with your IEP?
Evaluations can and often are overwhelming.  This is most times due to
our lack of understanding of the medical jargon.  As a parent it is
important for us to understand what the evaluation is really saying.
Otherwise, how can we ensure the results are meaningful or even
understandable to be an active and informed participant.  All to often
families are given summaries of evaluations and not full reports.  Either
way it takes an unsurmountable amount of time and know how to sit and
interpret language that may appear "greek".  Learn how to determine if
the evaluation tools used are appropriate to confer benefit and how to
extract important information to be discussed in planning meetings with
service providers.
Understanding the Evaluation
isn't always that easy.
In everyone's efforts to do the best they can to provide services to
individuals with disabilities, it is sometimes necessary to have
additional information such as independent evaluations, assessments
for Assistive Technology, or Speech and Language, and OT and PT
evaluations.  Merely asking for these evaluations are not always
going to get the information necessary.  Learn how to effectively
request and obtain this information.
Request and receive additional
information to provide adequate and
appropriate services.
Mediation is a neutral process for parties with conflicting opinions to
come together to achieve consensus without having to go through Due
Process.  Learn how to prepare for mediation or obtain direct support in
preparation for mediation.  Due process is every individuals right.  If and
when you disagree with a decision, action, or inaction you have the right
to have a third party hear your side and making a ruling. Learn how to
minimize your legal expenses buy getting things in order prior to hiring an
attorney.
